Deploying a Light mode

I enjoy using Dark Mode wherever I can. On my OSes and all my apps. I even force a dark mode styling on websites that don’t have one.

That’s why The Studio only had a dark mode. Because I don’t use a Light Mode.

Up until now.

A couple of days ago I read a toot (which I can’t seem to relocate). It mentioned that for some people reading very bright text on very dark background leads to eye fatigue. Which makes sense knowing of irradiation illusion: bright objects appearing to glow outwards.

In the spirit of making more of the web accessibility for more people, I decided to quickly spin up a light mode. It’s not much, but it’s the best I can do.

Going forward, whenever you access this site with a light mode preference in your browser, you will see the new styling. Enjoy!

Things that need more work

  • Because the color contrast of my preferred highlight color (neon green) is too low in Light Mode, I had to pick a different color. Not ideal; might iterate later.
  • The whole theme, both in Dark and Light Mode, is just quickly thrown together. There is no real concept, just a couple of color picks that seemed to work well on a quick glance.
  • Currently, there’s no toggle and no storing of your preference.
