Was talking with a massage therapist who worked with several Bay Area sports teams about just how much effort pro athletes put into recovery. Been thinking about what recovery looks like for people whose work involves giving their minds, rather than their bodies, a beating.

The book ‘Hyper Focus’ includes various strategies on improving attention and focus but crucially how to recover between bouts of focus; doing a repetitive (autopilot) task and letting the mind wander is one. Reading is not, it takes a lot of processing power to parse and ingest. I think my list is “enough sleep that I wake up by 8am without an alarm clock” “red wine” “two week stretches without travel” “regular 30 min runs and yoga”
